I'd never brand myself as a beauty blogger per se. I mean, I love beauty products as much as the next girl and yes, I would consider myself a blogger but I just don't think I fall into that category... I know very little about beauty products (although significantly more than I used to) and I guess it's only fairly recently that I've begun exploring other products that might deviate from the usual drugstore bought items...
After my beautiful friend Sarah and I watched 'Les Mis' on Friday (utterly wonderful, I urge you to go and see it) we decided to have a little wander into Selfridges, mainly to swatch some MAC lipsticks and have a mooch around. I've fallen in love with Rebel (although I don't think it'd work for me if I'm honest) and another one but the name escapes me. We had a look through the NARS blush and eyeshadow (how beautiful are they?!), I ogled the Bare Minerals, we smelt (and sampled!) the Laura Mercier creams and Jo Malone sprays, and then found ourselves looking at an extremely lusted after product - the Eve Lom cleanser.
After a little smelling, poking, and staring, the lady on the counter came over to talk to us. We talked for ages about skin types, problems, acne, age, worries and all of the usual, and then about the product itself. As she said - she doesn't need to sell it, for the hype (and loyalty of customers) sells itself. I think with all cleansers, if it works for you and you don't mind parting with the dosh, why not go for it? Unfortunately 50 odd pounds for something that contains mostly mineral oil and lanolin is - in my opinion - outrageous... But, as the woman said, it sells itself. To think I used to scoff at the price of the Liz Earle hot cloth cleanser (something which I still need to try).
As conversation turned to sensitive skin and irritants, our lovely lady offered us some samples. Unfortunately not of the classic cleanser as they had none in stock, but of the morning time cleanser which is based on the classic formula, but of a much lighter consistency. We got two sachets each which I thought was lovely of her (kudos!)

I love the smell – it’s quite herbally and fresh, something which I guess contributes to it being a more ‘morning’ cleanser. I love the consistency - there's something quite therapeutic about rubbing Vaseline-esque potions into your skin and I love their ethic... Unfortunately that's where the love ends. After the first use of this I thought it was a wonder-product. I had visions of me using up the sachets and going out to buy the real thing – my skin felt as soft as a baby’s bum and I felt refreshed. I used it a couple of times and then I noticed my skin drying further and my eyelids flaring up into an eczema-like reaction. Great.
I cleansed this morning using my Purely Natural cleanser (review to come up as soon as possible, I promise, I want to give it a proper go before I comment on it) and the itchiness, soreness, and redness appears to have died down a little.
I still have an unopened sachet if anybody would like to try it? What are your thoughts on Eve Lom cleansers? Wonder products or overrated hype?

The fact that your skin didn't like it is definitely a blessing in disguise, once you fall in love with an expensive product there's no going back! :( I've been wanting to try some Eve Lom for ages but wasn't actually aware that cleanser contained lots of mineral oil. That's an ingredient I steer well clear of in my skincare so again, another blessing in disguise! Eve Lom really is so expensive. I'd highly recommend Ren or Origins if you fancy trying something new.
